Update: Spot fire sparks north of town of Banff, crews on scene – DiscoverAirdrie.com

On Thursday afternoon, Banff National Parks officials stated that both fires north of the town of Banff had been extinguished.

Fire crews were working to extinguish a small spot fire that erupted north of the Town of Banff yesterday.

The fire is the second fire that crews have been alerted to in the past few days in the same area, though it was underlined that an earlier fire that had been spotted on Tuesday has been since extinguished.

According to Banff National Park officials, the small spot fire was identified when crews scanned the nearby Elk Pass area for hot spots after a fire had cropped up on Tuesday evening.

“Parks Canada responded to a smoke report and confirmed a small fire in the backcountry of Banff National Park, near Elk Pass and approximately 15 kilometres north of the town of Banff. A Parks Canada fire crew responded immediately with suppression measures, including support from a helicopter bucketing,” officials said.

Because of the quick response, the fire was classified as under control on Tuesday evening and was extinguished today. The second fire, which was around 120 meters away from the original fire, did not pose a threat to public safety or infrastructure. Officials posted on social media.

A fire ban remains in place in Banff National Park.
